Communicate 2.1.2 Communication Guidelines Quest

  • Welcome email: This email should be an introduction to the course along with information about ways to contact instructor, overall expectations and procedures.  General housekeeping procedures (how to log in, times to access, etc.) along with any other important information students, parents, and other stakeholders need to begin the course.
  • Personal notes versus mass communication to stakeholders: Personal notes should include specific communication with one student with specific feedback.  Questions about grades and assignments would be appropriate.  Mass communication would include reminders about upcoming assignments, general expectations and clarification about assignments.
  • Stakeholders: Communication with stakeholders should be consistent and thorough.  Each stakeholder requires different types of communication.  Regardless of the information being shared (lesson plans, grades, expectations, etc.), it should be completed in a timely and consistent matter.
  • School Policies regarding Communication: All communication should be conducted through school email (gmail account for my school).  Students and parents have access to a gmail account specifically for work within this school system.  The communication is monitored by the system and can be easily traced.
  • Tools available for effective Communication: Remind 101, school call, email reminders, google calendar, and phone calls are available as communication tools.  Teachers should pick the appropriate tool depending on stakeholder and situation.
